Porters & Lodging
Group Porters
One group porter will be allocated for every trekker in your group and these porters will each carry around 20kg of weight including food, tents, ground foam and other camping, cooking and survival gear for the group. Your allocated porter will carry up to 8kg of your gear.
Personal Porters
It is recommended that you hire a personal porter to carry your backpack if you have any doubts concerning your ability to carry it for the duration of the trek. Personal porters cost an additional $400 and are a great option for less-fit trekkers. If you choose to hire a personal porter you will only need to carry a small daypack or hydration pack during the trek. Please contact one of our Kokoda Trail specialists at 1300 4 565 632 or info@kokodatrailexpeditions.com.au for more information.
Overnight Camps
You’ll spend some nights at village guesthouses and others at jungle campsites. The porter allocated to you will assist with setting up your tent at campsites and help arrange your bed for the night at guesthouses. All campsites and guesthouses have toilets, a fireplace and water for washing and cooking. Guides and porters will purify water for drinking at each location using water purification tablets.
